For those of you not familiar with the terminal I wrote a simple application, that lets you disable and enable backups for the iPhone/ipod touch with a single mouse click.

I know what you’re thinking: “Matt, I hacked my original iPhone. Now I want to share in the iPhone 3G fun, but I’m worried that something horrible will happen if I upgrade to the iPhone 3G.”
Buck up, fellow iPhone hacker. I’ll tell you how to upgrade from your hacked Apple phone and keep all the settings you love from your original iPhone.

We previously reported inordinately sluggish system performance from the iPhone 3G, particularly with regard to scrolling, text input, and return to the home screen. The issue appears to be endemic to iPhone OS 2.0, as users of first-generation phones who have updated to the new software are also experiencing lag.

I’ve been having a lot of iPhone 3G trouble over the past two weeks, most notably:
- Forced backup of the entire phone on every sync
- Contact lag
- The horrible app update process
I’m happy to report on what appears to be the magic bullet fix for the above three symptoms. At the advice of reader and PPUG member Todd Schneider, I simply restored my iPhone and set it up anew.

Let’s say you and your family decided to jump on Apple’s bandwagon and now you’re all geared up with Apple hardware. Now you’re all getting along with all your Macs and iPhones doing their thing, like one big happy family.
It’s all fun and games around the house. All fun and games, that is, until you actually want to have some fun with iPhone games.

With the release of iPhone 2.0 software, and especially the App Store, the iPhone has taken a significant step toward being a Mac “in your pocket,” rather than merely a smart phone. While the emphasis here is on the benefits of being a Mac, there are a few downsides to consider.

From music to contacts to your favorite bookmarks, here’s how to integrate an iPhone—3G or otherwise—into your digital life.
As another, failed, wireless carrier once said, don’t call it a phone. With Apple’s iPhone 2.0 software update, it doesn’t matter if you spring for the iPhone 3G or hold onto your first-generation iPhone. Either way, you get a top-quality handset with a revolutionary touch-screen interface. Pair it with your desktop or laptop PC, though, and it becomes so much more than that.

It’s holiday season again - at least for parents and school-age children – so it’s time to pack your suitcase and go on vacation.
If you’ve read recent scare stories of massive mobile data roaming charges – where naïve users have racked up thousands of pounds on their mobile bills just by browsing the internet or downloading a few files or email attachments – then you might be worried about taking your iPhone abroad with you.

This is not going to be a post about how cool the new iPhone 3G is. In some ways it is an amazing product but I don’t think another post like that is going to contribute anything further in this discussion. I wouldn’t say that the honeymoon is over, but I’m starting to feel a little more ambivalent towards the iPhone, at least how it is sold in Australia.

If you’re an owner of the first generation iPhone then one of the (many) annoyances you’ve discovered with your new curvy and slightly chubbier 3G sib is the fact that it won’t fit your existing dock—be it the dock bundled with the iPhone or with the Bluetooth headset.

I read through the 150 odd pages of the iPhone user guide looking for tips and shortcuts and for information on usage that I haven’t discovered yet. The following is a collection of the things I found useful or interesting, some may be well known already but they’re mainly here for my reference. However they may be useful to others as well; Particularly those who’ve just picked up an iPhone for the first time following the worldwide release of the iPhone 3G.

Angry about AT&T’s nickel and diming ways with their iPhone data and SMS plans? Then don’t purchase an SMS plan at all (sorry, can’t help you with the data part). Tidbits’ Jeff Carlson notes that you can send SMS messages for free by using the iPhone’s free AIM chat client. Here’s how:

Battery life is the iPhone 3G’s Achilles heel. The original iPhone’s battery life was marginal—able to get through a fully day of moderate usage, but only barely. The iPhone 3G’s battery is worse, because of the energy-sucking needs of the 3G chipset.
Poor battery life is one of the two chief reasons why some people won’t buy an iPhone. (The two other reasons: Lack of a hard keyboard, and overall phobia about buying Apple products, usually accompanied by self-righteous statements about how Apple fanboys are all sheep.)

The iPhone 3G automatically switches between 3G and 2G networks for voice and data connections. In theory, the phone should hop off 3G when signal strength is too low or non-existent, and hop back on when the signal gets better. In our experience, however, the ; isn’t aggressive enough regarding the switch from 3G to 2G.

Brussels // R.Bollen // 12-07-2008 // Faithful reader Raoul Urlings, was so kind to test for you the new firmware with his unlocked Version1 iPhone. He wanted to eagerly install some of the new iPhone apps from the iTunes store. The result is a bricked iPhone. The attempts to downgrade failed on the warning that he is using a higher version and downgrade is not possible.
So be warned and DO NOT upgrade until the iPhone DEV team is ready with packaging their new unlock software. I do not really understand the view of Apple here because millions of these unlocked iPhones are sold already. Are they hoping that you trade it in for the new model?
How to upgrade your current iPhone to firmware 2.0 ?
*** DO NOT TRY TO RUN THIS PROCEDURE ***
Make a backup since all your content will be deleted after firmware upgrade.
Google and download the file “ iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw”.
Option + update your iPhone in iTunes with connected iPhone and select the downloaded file.
The process runs in 3 parts: preparing, updating, verifying. During the update there is nothing to see, only white apple on black background appears. The process takes +/- 12 minutes.
Message: iPhone has been updated and restarts.
And then it went wrong. After restarting I got the following error message in iTunes: We could not complete your iTunes Store request, the network connection was reset. Disconnected & reconnected the iPhone, iTunes shows accessing iTunes Store but the same error message appears. :-( [Editor: I called Mobistar and t
Will try to fix the problem and provide you an update…
After completing you get this message: iPhone has been updated, restarts and asks for an iTunes connection. Now your iPhone runs the latest firmware and should be activated.

If you’re one of the unlucky few to still be rocking unshielded speakers around your work or living space, then you’re probably painfully aware of just how annoying that cell-signal “buzz” can be.
The problem is, speakers that aren’t shielded from electromagnetic (RF) interference will pick up on the radio frequency perturbations associated with incoming or outgoing cellular calls and interpret them as an incredibly annoying “buzz.”

By Christina Laun - Whether you love or loathe technology the reality is that it’s going to play a big role in the future of libraries and educational facilities all over the world. Mobile technology has been at the center of a lot of discussion lately in research and library facilities, with schools like ACU choosing to distribute iPhones to new students for educational purposes.
While the long term value of the iPhone as an educational tool is still up for debate, there are a number of ways librarians and researchers can begin using the technology to help them find information, catalogue their collections and much more.

I don’t have much use for the iPhone’s autocorrection feature. If you feel the same way, here’s some good news: You can turn the feature off. It’s not as simple as you might hope. But it can be done. I’ll explain how in a moment. First, let’s start with why you might want to do it.

Safari on the iPhone rocks the big one. It is just awesome for surfing the net on your iPhone (like trying to find out places to eat) and being able to launch multiple windows is a great feature (can’t wait to be able to save images!). However, the maximum amount of windows you can open is limited to 8. Yet, yours truly has been able to increase that number to lucky number 13! Don’t ask me how I did it, it just happens!

2. Pirateas tu iPhone con Winpwn o Pwnage Tool. Después entras en Installer o Cydia y algún juego encontrarás.
Saludos.
