Web-apps promised to make native mobile applications a dying breed. But, with web-apps requiring a constant wireless connection and the need to run within a mobile web browser, native applications are still running strong. But, with the iPhone 2.1 OS, Apple has taken the first step to making web-applications just as powerful and convenient as natively installed mobile applications.

The days when a household had one central stereo in the living are long gone. Today you’ll find receivers and speakers scattered throughout—and sometimes, outside—the house. Yet, as many of us move from room to room, we switch one music system off and another on. Wouldn’t it be simpler to feed each system the same music and channel it to different rooms as you move around the house?

Apple’s iPhone Configuration Utility 1.0.1, released late last week, isn’t designed as an end-user troubleshooting tool. Instead it’s meant to “create, maintain, and sign configuration profiles, and track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications” allowing enterprise users to create configuration profiles for device deployment.

After praising the iPhone as wholesome as warm bread, Colbert takes to task the iPhone for its “kill switch” (”It actually kills you!”). In the meantime, Gizmodo reports that there’s a “BossPrefs” app to disable it, joining the more labor intensive method of tricking the iPhone into thinking that the Apple update server is found on the phone itself.

If Steve Jobs says the iPhone comes with Visual Voicemail, the iPhone really comes with Visual Voicemail. We simple users of the device don’t get to disable it. That is unfortunate for those of us who travel internationally, because voicemail is really expensive when roaming abroad. The problem is that phone networks are also really dumb.
