The next upgrade for Apple’s iCloud may well have the company moving into the social networking realm once again with photo sharing in the same vein as ultra-popular photo application Instagram. This report comes from the Wall Street Journal whose sources say that the upgrade will be coming in the form of an iCloud Beta release first for developers at WWDC 2012.

When Apple announced the details about the 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference on Wednesday, it set tongues wagging – or, more accurately, keyboards clicking – all across the internet. While Apple’s announcement all but confirmed that iOS 6 would be announced (just as iOS 5 was announced at WWDC 2011), there was speculation about what else Apple might have up its sleeve. An iPad Mini? An iTV? The iPhone 5 (or iPhone 6 or, most likely, “new iPhone”)?

BEIJING: A teenage high-school student in China sold his kidney for an illicit transplant operation and used the proceeds to buy an Apple iPhone and iPad, state press said on Friday.
The 17-year-old boy, who was paid 22,000 yuan ($3,500), was recruited from an online chatroom and is now suffering from kidney failure and in deteriorating health, the Xinhua news agency said.

A recruiter for Foxconn’s growing Taiyuan plant may have inadvertently spoiled some of Appe’s 2012 iPhone plans. When interviewing with TV-Tokyo [past 6-minute mark], the staffer said the plant was explicitly hiring 18,000 workers “for the fifth-generation phone.” He expected the phone to come out in June.

Light Reading has dug up some very interesting job postings on Apple’s website. Apple is looking for telephony software engineers to work on iOS. Judging by the list of experience requirements in the postings, Apple is looking to add voice-over-IP (VoIP) capabilities to the iPhone and iPad operating system’s ever-growing feature set.

Apple is said to have yet another product in the pipeline with a Retina display, and this time it’s an iPhone with a really big screen, according to a report from Reuters.
Apple is purportedly already placing orders with suppliers for a 4.6-inch iPhone Retina display, Reuters said today, citing a report in South Korea’s Maeil Business Newspaper.

A 51-year-old Colorado woman told Mashable her iPhone 4 burst into smoke just inches from her head last week — and she has the photos to prove it.
The woman — who spoke on the condition that her name not be used — says she was traveling on the East Coast and sleeping alone in a hotel room with the phone plugged in to an Apple charger on the nightstand “12 to 14 inches from my head.”

When Hector Siliezar visited the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza with his wife and kids in 2009, he snapped three iPhone photos of El Castillo, a pyramid that once served as a sacred temple to the Mayan god Kukulkan. Recent rumors have alternately suggested that Apple is working on a quad-core “A6” or an improved dual-core “A5X” processor for its next-generation mobile devices.
