Google will release an iPhone version of its currently Android-based Google Goggles app by the end of the year, Google executives said Monday.

Today at Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, the company held an event to show off their new Places product — essentially their check-in service. We spotted in the wild a bit early, but that was only on the touch.facebook.com site (the site built specifically for touchscreen devices). Later tonight, it will be a central part of the new Facebook iPhone app as well.

Grooveshark, our readers’ favorite music streaming service, just had its on-demand streaming app approved by Apple last week, to the surprise of some and the delight of many Grooveshark fans. Just yesterday, though, the app was pulled from the store, stemming from a dispute between the Grooveshark team and Universal Music Group, with Apple as the app arbitrator.

Vimeo is expanding the availability of its online video site with a new universal player that will work on Apple’s iPhone and iPad mobile devices, as well as a channel on Roku broadband set-top boxes. One of the big iPhone news items this week revolved around an app I wrote about in the June 11 edition of iPhone apps of the week. Apparently, Taptaptap, developer of Camera+ (not currently available at the App Store) recently added a feature called “VolumeSnap” that would allow users to snap pictures using the iPhone volume controls on the side of the device. Apple pulled Camera+ from the iTunes App Store saying the app violated Apple’s developer agreement terms by using one of the main iPhone controls in a “non-standard way, potentially resulting in user confusion.”

The Foxit document reader has been updated to fix the same critical bug that currently leaves iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches wide open to malware attacks.
Foxit Reader version 4.1.1.0805 “fixes the crash issue caused by the new iPhone/iPad jailbreak program which can be exploited to inject arbitrary code into a system and execute it there,” Foxit officials said. They recommend that users install the update to protect themselves.

Iambic has released a key update to the iPhone version of its Agendus personal information manager app. The new version includes key fixes and enhancements for iOS 4 and builds on the version released last month which brought significant updates to the interface aimed at helping users better manage their time and to-do list.
Agendus integrates a user’s Calendar, Contacts and Task List into one application. Iambic has added features to make it easier to see what’s most pressing and important on the user’s daily agenda. The app enables users to assign icons to Events and Tasks making it easier to identify them and offers the ability to go to today’s events or scheduled tasks by a simple shake of the device when in any Calendar view.

Good.iWare announces a breakthrough development which will bring back the extremely popular feature of transferring files via USB to its GoodReader document viewer for iPhone and iPad.
