Through changes to Microsoft’s servers, it is now easier to install Windows Live Hotmail on the iPhone to read your mails
Hotmail now supports POP3 and that means that you can configure it on the iPhone as a normal email account. Until now, POP3 support was only available for people with a paid Hotmail Plus account.
Forwarding and other tricks are no longer necessary. Here you can read how to configure your Windows Live Hotmail on the iPhone.

Not everyone can receive Hotmail, according to the forums, at the moment. But why not give it a try.
You need to do the following:
1. Go to Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendar> Add account ...> Other.
2. Give the account a name and fill in your username and password. Click Save.
3. Turn the switch on the top of the screen to POP (instead of IMAP).
4. Fill in your incoming mail server:
Server Name: pop3.live.com
Username: your e-mail address
Password: The password of your account
5. Fill in server for outgoing mail to:
Server Name: smtp.live.com
Username: your e-mail address
Password: The password of your account
6. Your data is now being reviewed.
If all goes well, the e-mails are coming in. Some users report problems, but our test accounts ending on @hotmail.com and @live.nl worked without problems.
