NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has been chosen by Aponia Software s.r.o. to support its new navigation software architecture with pan-European map data and a range of advanced content.
A mobile software specialist based in the Czech Republic, Aponia is currently focusing on navigation and location and has recently relaunched its BE-ON-ROAD application with a completely new architecture. It is designed for consumer and enterprise environments and can operate using both the US and GLONASS GPS systems.
The Russian counterpart to the US Global Positioning System, GLONASS is based on a constellation of satellites continuously transmitting signals which can be received by users anywhere on the Earth’s surface to identify their position and speed in real time.
NAVTEQ is providing pan-European maps plus advanced navigation features such as 3D City and Landmark models which help orientation in unfamiliar situations; Driver Alerts which warn of upcoming hazardous situations such as sharp bends or steep hills; and Speed Limits which enable journey times to be calculated with maximal allowed speed. Drivers are also warned of maximum allowed speeds and conditional limits based on special circumstances such as weather, time of day, season or school zones etc.
Also helping to guide drivers efficiently and effectively on motorway networks, Extended Lane content and Junction View images use voice, text or visual cues to highlight the correct lane and simplify routing at complex junctions.
“Our mission is to gain customers in both B2C and B2B,” explained Daniel Kuchválek, Managing Director, Aponia. “Therefore it is essential to offer high quality, innovative content which not only satisfies today’s demanding consumers but also meets the standards required for customisation for complex enterprise applications. Our agreement with NAVTEQ will enable us to provide all our customers with the best possible solution.”
BE-ON-ROAD is available for mobile devices running on the Windows Phone, iOS and Android Operating Systems. BE-ON-ROAD can also be customised for use in professional fleet and mobile workforce management applications and is available with a set of API functions for easy integration into existing systems.
“We are keen to drive the market for GLONASS based products, services and navigation applications and can effectively support fellow industry innovators such as Aponia with the portfolio needed to introduce new and exciting offerings,” added Florian Kuenne, vice president Customer Marketing EMEA, NAVTEQ.

Some GPS apps have volume control in the settings menu, I have the same issue sometimes with Navigon, I start driving with the volume of the iPhone normal and then I don’t hear the Voice instructions until I boost the volume in the settings of the app.
How do I get the volume from the IGO primo app to the Igo car dock? I can get the car dock working fine with music and telephone but I cant get the navigation coming through the car radio.
