The introduction of the iPhone 4 is a fact in Belgium. Quite some people have tried to get their hands on one, but not too many succeeded. For example in Antwerp the rumor goes that there were 65 iPhones for the people who queued sinds midnight (see pics below) and only 15 for the morning queue.
In another Mobistar shop in Mortsel there were only 11 but there where 16 preorders, so -5. I checked out some shops in the capital Brussels.
Apple enthusiasts can now take their new iPhone 4 from the retail box to an OtterBox™ as the Colorado case manufacturing company unveils its Defender Series case. Impact Series and Commuter Series cases are coming soon.
“We set the bar high for quality and durability,” OtterBox founder and CEO Curt Richardson said. “Extensive research and testing is done to ensure our cases are precision-fit and proven to withstand abuse. Great design takes time and we are confident to now deliver our signature Defender Series protection for the iPhone 4.”
When even my girlfriend tells me my new iPhone has a big antenna issue, I know that the media has gone too far. Every Apple fanboy has watched the Antenna keynote by now and is drooling over Apple’s 100 Million dollar antenna facilities. Let’s talk about my experience with the iPhone 4 and it’s connectivity.
I tried to simulate the drop of bars by holding the iPhone in the death-grip and indeed, it switched from 3G to EDGE in my house. It was exceptional to have 3G during my test anyway, I only have sometimes 2 to 3 bars 3G here. Note that I live quite close to the European Institutions in Brussels where you would expect top reception.
It’s already a quarter ago that Navigon updated their popular GPS application for the iPhone. I was excited with edition 1.5.0 to use the new Panorama View 3D display on my holiday trip to Nice (France), because the city is built in mountain area. To prepare my trip for the max, I got hold of the new iPhone 4, so my pictures and movies would look awesome too.
One day before leaving I installed some GPS apps and tested Navigon 1.5.0 on the brand new iPhone. To my disappointment I could only see the cursor and the POIs shown on the map, but not the actual map image. I reinstalled the app, downloaded again the Panorama View 3D, to no avail. I could switch back to normal 3D view though. That was a bummer, because I bought the Panorama View 3D especially for my holiday trip.
Apple has just released an update for iOS 4. That is really quick if you recall that version 4 was released June 21, less than a month ago.
Their web site describes the upgrade like this;
The iOS 4.0.1 Software Update improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 3G. The real signal strength remains the same, but the bars on iPhone will indicate it more precisely.
The upgrade has been pushed out just after the keynote in which Steve Jobs explains the antenna issue of the iPhone 4.
