Hang out at any ski resort or local beach hotspot and you are sure to see some of the coolest gear on the market.  Hanging around Las Vegas at this year’s Consumer Electronic Show was no different.  We turned the corner and ran into what had to be one of the best looking and coolest booths at CES.  Skullcandy had their entire line of products out for us to see but gave us a special sneak peak to what they are planning to release in 2008.

iPhone AccessoriesSDI Technologies, the company behind the iHome series of affordable iPod audio systems, is not surprisingly embracing both iPods and iPhones in 2008, as well as Microsoft’s Zune line of portable media devices. SDI is showing off several new products at CES, including an L-shaped alarm clock for the iPod and iTouch (as well as other iPod models) that allow you to change the orientation of the unit so you can watch videos, “while the clock display rotates accordingly to complement the position of the unit.”

Quickertec is announcing a range of new Mac products for this year and one that interests us most is this note they send us: “We are also working on a real-time GPS system for your iPhones. The iPhone does Google Maps, but that doesn’t solve the problem of where you are when you are lost! Hence we are dubbing it the Lost & Found.

This little device (about iPhone size) will wirelessly make your iPhone or iPod touch a bona fide GPS system. Imagine how nice it would be to have a GPS in your car lost or when you’re backpacking half way around the world completely lost. Barring the tiger doesn’t eat you, you’ll be in great shape.”

We will keep an eye on the product and will publish/review it when it comes to the market.
Robin.

Shortly after Apple released the iPhone, Shure became the first of several companies to completely address a problem plaguing fans of older headphones: they didn’t work. The Music Phone Adapter MPA-3c not only converted their differently-shaped headphone plugs for the iPhone’s special recessed jack, but also added a microphone and a button that handled the same phone call and music controls offered by Apple’s packed-in iPhone Stereo Headphones.

iPhone accessoriesFlip-closed leather iPod and iPhone cases continue to appear at a staggering pace, but unfortunately, innovation remains elusive: other than small changes to their shapes and materials, the latest offerings are no better than last year’s, and from our perspective are even less worthwhile given that they limit your access to the device’s increasingly important screens.

There aren’t many (if any) sounds systems available for the iPhone just yet, but that will soon change in the coming year. Engadget highlighted one of the sexiest systems I’ve seen for the iPhone, set to debut at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Called the iPhone Station, the slim concave design holds the iPhone upright so that you can watch videos and play music with style.

We can’t tell you how much we love grainy spy-shots and questionable rumors. Like this one, for example. The image you see to the right shows what looks to be a TomTom-made GPS module plugged in to the bottom of an iPhone, with GPS navigation prompts displayed on the screen.

nice leather iphone casesWe’ve probably received more leather iPod cases in the past two months than in the past two years, so in an effort to cover as many as possible, we’re writing only brief reviews today for all but the most interesting ones. This is our review of Speck’s TechStyle-Classic for iPhone ($35).

Many of us are already owners of the excellent V-Moda Vibe Duo headphones made especially for the iPhone, which provide excellent sound quality and style along with the same control features provided by the standard iPhone earbuds. For those of you who haven’t upgraded the stock iPhone earbuds and are considering doing so, you might consider Seidio’s latest offering which provides expanded controls over both the iPhone and V-Moda earbuds.

It’s rare that people are clumsy enough to take their phones close enough to a pool to drop it in, but accidentally slipping it into the toilet is another matter.
