Conceited Software today released a tiny app (3.8kb) called AudioAmp that purports to increase or amplify the volume output of iPhones.
Unfortunately that’s exactly all the information available at the moment, even if the app is already out. As to what it precisely does is still a mystery, according to various forum discussions as of this morning, and the company website is no help.

Leave it to the army of third-party developers, hackers, krackers and programmers to plug the holes and putty-up the seams and cracks in Apple’s line of products. Somehow, somewhere, sometime soon, someone’s going to patch up the good ship Apple, in spite of Steve.

Apple has locked down the iPhone battery, which means that once it can’t hold a charge, you need to send it in. If you’d rather just buy your own battery and replace it yourself, we’ve got your hookup. Nate and I got together to film this this tutorial, which shows how to replace your iPhone battery. Heck, even if you have decided that you will never open up your iPhone on your own, we think it’s still pretty cool to see the process - so just hit play, okay?

Not all preferences appear in your iPhone Settings application. As I discussed rather thoroughly in my Modding Mac OS X book, it’s not that hard to dig through applications and discover undocumented--or in this case unpromoted--preferences that add spice to your Mac or iPhone. I’ve written a Script-fu plugin for the Gimp which splits an image up like this one for New York, but automagically. It’s not as spiffy in the final appearance but it does the job.
Right now I can’t put it up on the site as I can’t ssh into deadsquid from this hotel. For those who don’t know, you can sync arbitrary photos to your iPhone, but then it RESIZES them to a lower resolution.

When you decide that it is worth to risk your ipod touch’s warranty in order to install a vast number of third party apps, you are sure to end filling up all the space dedicated to the ipod operative system.
This ain’t good for a lot of reasons: you won’t be able to install new software and some will fail (as of YouTube not being able to create its cache files).

The other day I tried to purchase an album from iTunes through the Wi-Fi Music Store on an iPhone. Unfortunately, the transaction couldn’t be completed because there wasn’t enough storage space on the device. 8GB isn’t what it used to be.

One thing that lacked was a removable disk option for the iPhone. Its absence was a means to deter hackers from gaining access to the core of the device so easily but all of that has changed.
