iPhone ringtonesSan Diego, CA--July 1, 2008--Information Appliance Associates, creators of industry-leading connectivity solutions, announces the release of the PocketMac® RingtoneStudio for iPhone, a new tool that gives iPhone users the power to convert almost any media file on their Macs into a ringtone.

“We’re incredibly excited,” said Terence Goggin, CTO of Information Appliance Associates. “The iPhone is great, and as more people are using it, they want to expand the variety of ringtones they can use on their iPhone. But it was either too expensive or too difficult to do on their own. That’s where this software comes in.”

iPhone ringtonesI don’t convert songs to iPhone ringtones very often, so I made this flowchart to help me remember the process.

And by posting it here, I’ll always know where it is. Oddly, I find that Googling “create iphone ringtone” or something like that often brings up out-of-date information.

Last September we did a column on the new iPhone ringtones - or, namely, the lack there of. Licensing problems with the five major music groups made only eight percent of the Apple Music Store available as a ringtone. As you may remember, out of 14.3 days worth of music, I had 14 songs I could turn into a ringtone.

I stumbled across a great site when looking for iPhone ringtones called Audiko.net. At Audiko, just search for your favorite, artist, album, or song title, and chances are they’ll have your ringtone preconverted to iPhone .m4r format. No need to pay $0.99 per ringtone anymore.

Brussels / 23 April 2008 / R.Bollen

Yesterday I installed the Ringtone application that is available in installer.app via the source: http://i.danstaface.net. The current version is 2.86 and is capable of converting songs from your library in your iPhone, directly. It takes about 1 minute to process a song but it is very convenient not to have to use other software. It also saves you the price you have to pay in iTunes.

My tests were very positive and a recommendation to all unlocked iPhone users. Install at own risk of course!

Here’s a life-changing tip for iPhone owners from physics professor Richard Muller:

Dear David,

One feature I really miss on my iPhone is a feature of my old cellphone: “vibrate THEN ring.” I like to sit in a meeting and feel the vibration, get up and leave with nobody knowing why. But sometimes I am walking or otherwise active, and I don’t feel the vibrate; sometimes I have left the phone recharging, and I don’t feel the vibrate. So what I really miss is 10 seconds of vibration followed by a loud ring.

About a week ago, I was sitting in my Physics 6A lecture when I heard an instantly familiar sound coming from someone’s cell phone. Within a millisecond of the sound wave being interpreted by my brain, I was instantly recalling memories of the good ol’ days of playing one of my favourite video game series: Metal Gear Solid.
