Melodeo’s Dave Dederer calls his company’s new mobile music service, nuTsie, “an iPhone on training wheels.”

And the service, which allows users to listen to random shuffles of music from their iTunes libraries on select mobiles phones, even takes its name from Apple’s ubiquitous service.

An AT&T employee who works on Operations tells us that the carrier ordered a last-minute beefing up of its EDGE throughput, latency and coverage in anticipation of the iPhone. The operation, internally referenced as “Fine Edge” will continue until June 15th, and has been going on for as many as 6 weeks.

The date’s been cast in stone: June 29 is the day the already legendary Apple iPhone goes on sale in the US, but as the date of release draws closer, what problems can Apple expect?

If you haven’t already seen the new iPhone ads on US Primetime TV or from Apple’s website, the first thing you notice is just how cool the iPhone interface looks and high incredibly easy it appears to be to use, as easy as when Steve Jobs demonstrated it back at Macworld in January.

In looking through Apple’s newly posted iPhone ads on their site, I noticed something interesting. In every shot we have ever seen of the iPhone’s main menu thus far, there are 3 rows of icons for applications (2 rows of 4 icons, and the 3rd row has 3 icons) for a total of 11 icons. (See below).

SAN ANTONIO - After an acquisition binge that transformed the smallest Baby Bell into a telecommunications heavyweight, AT&T Inc. is undergoing another change today: a new chief executive.

Randall Stephenson, 47, rose through the ranks of AT&T and previously served as its chief financial officer and chief operating officer. He is credited with helping position the company so it could afford the buying spree that turned it into the nation’s largest provider of traditional phone, wireless and broadband services.

I copied all the AppleTV content over to the new site but I will have to leave it here for my google rankings.

Apple’s advertising for an ‘iPhone Flash File System Engineer’. Some people are interpreting this as a sign that future iPhones will feature support for removable flash memory cards of one form or another, but we think that’s drawing a long bow.

Apple has already announced the iPhone will come with 4 or 8G of memory, and it seems most unlikely that it won’t be flash.

Apple has developed a way to keep the iPhone and any other future wireless handhelds free of interference, according to a newly granted US patent. The filing, originally made just weeks before the iPhone’s announcement at Macworld San Francisco, is meant to address the potentially dangerous problem of interference from peripherals brought near or attached to the device.

It looks like interactive surfaces are all the rage nowadays. First we had the iPhone from Apple with its multi-touch technology and now we have Microsoft’s Surface (of course neither of these devices is actually shipping yet, but when does that stop us from talking about them?).

Steve Jobs took the stage following News Corp. President Peter Chernin for an interview with Walt Mossberg at the D conference. He was if full product evangelist, selling mode, describing the magic Apple’s products. He attributed Apple’s success to “software wrapped in really wonderful hardware.

The software [on the iPhone] is at least five years ahead of anyone else,” he claimed.

Thanks to the loose lips of a local employee, we now bring news that Fry’s, the ginormous big-box electronics retail chain that is part Mecca and part Disneyland for nerds, will next month start selling AT&T Wireless. They haven’t announced this yet, but it’s a big deal. Fry’s was always reluctant to offer Cingular’s services for various reasons, but seems to be ok with AT&T.

Macworld. Steve Jobs went on stage and introduced the iPhone to much fanfare. According to our source from an Apple affliate (that shall not be named), Steve left out some of the iPhone’s features out of his Macworld keynote…and at the same time downplayed some the features.

Why would Steve downplay some of the features? Our source says that since the iPhone would be released in June, Apple did not want to affect iPod sales. Apple has not released a new video player version of their iPod since 2005, despite the update to the 5G iPod in 2006.

So The Seattle Times got a sit down with the rather guarded Glenn Lurie, AT&T’s man on the ground for the iPhone. While he didn’t give much up in the way of the phone’s finer details, he did have one takeaway that left us interested.

When asked about the mass skepticism over the iPhone’s price, he replied “…

Brace yourself for another tsunami of hype.

May’s craze was “American Idol.” June’s will be the Apple iPhone, which is going on sale in a few weeks. As with “Idol,” the iPhone show has lots of Seattle connections. The season begins Wednesday when Apple boss Steve Jobs is expected to talk up the device at a Wall Street Journal tech conference in California.

AT&T is reworking its failed Unity plan to be simpler and to coincide with the launch of the iPhone, AT&T chief marketing officer Rick Welday told Bloomberg in an interview. The company is trying to time the re-launch of Unity with the iPhone because they think they’ll be able to sell it to a wider audience when people are in the store to check out Apple’s new gadget.

Have you seen the new iPhone and its hefty price tag?  For $499 to $599 I’d imagine the Apple phone would not only cook breakfast in the morning but also clean up afterwards. AppleCareAlas that is not part of the package but at least you get a phone, widescreen iPod and Internet access “into one small and lightweight handheld device” according to Apple.
